Residents of Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, were thrown into shock on Saturday, June 7, 2025, after discovering the body of a naked man hanging from a tree in the New Market area of the town.
According to a local source who requested anonymity, the body was found in an undeveloped parcel of land.
A photo seen by PUNCH Metro showed the unclothed man suspended by a rope tied around his neck, suggesting a possible suicide.
Alarmed by the discovery, residents alerted the police. Officers, along with community leaders and local health officials, arrived at the scene and recovered the body.
The source said, “On Saturday, June 7, 2025, residents discovered the body of an unidentified naked male adult hanging from a tree.
Police, community leaders, and health officials were contacted for removal and investigation.”
A senior police officer confirmed that the matter had been reported to the Ogun State Police Command, though he declined to speak on record, citing lack of authorisation.
He advised inquiries be directed to the command’s spokesperson.
As of Thursday, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, had not responded to requests for comment.
A similar case was reported by PUNCH Metro in April 2018, when an unidentified man wearing only boxers was found dead, hanging from a tree near EFAB Estate in Lokogoma, Abuja.
