A 52-year-old man, Morufudeen Idowu, has been sentenced to three months in prison for assaulting a government sanitation officer at Ojota, Lagos.
Idowu was apprehended on Friday after attacking an official of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, also known as KAI, who had cautioned him against crossing the Ojota Expressway—a violation of the state’s pedestrian safety laws.
According to the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the accused not only ignored the safety warning but also resisted arrest and physically assaulted the officer.
In a statement shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Wahab confirmed that Idowu was arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Oshodi, where he was convicted and sentenced.
“Following the arrest of Mr. Morufudeen Idowu, who assaulted one of our personnel and refused arrest while crossing the expressway at Ojota, he was arraigned before the Magistrate Court sitting at Oshodi and sentenced to three months imprisonment,” Wahab stated.
The state government has reiterated its commitment to enforcing environmental and public safety regulations to ensure orderliness and protect lives.
