Dangote refinery to begin nationwide fuel, diesel with free logistics

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery will begin the nationwide distribution of Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) and diesel on August 15, 2025.

The company revealed this in a statement released on Sunday, describing it as a major step toward reshaping Nigeria’s fuel supply chain.

To support the rollout, Dangote is deploying 4,000 brand-new tankers powered by Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

The vehicles are expected to boost fuel availability and ease access across the country.

The distribution initiative targets fuel marketers, petrol station operators, manufacturers, telecom firms, aviation companies, and other major fuel consumers.

Additionally, the refinery plans to establish CNG booster stations and will operate over 100 dedicated gas-powered delivery trucks to further streamline fuel distribution.

The company emphasized that logistics support—including free product delivery—will help reduce operational costs and eliminate long-standing bottlenecks in the fuel supply chain.

“Dangote Petroleum Refinery is pleased to announce the commencement of a significant national initiative designed to transform Nigeria’s fuel distribution landscape,” the statement read. “Effective August 15, 2025, the refinery will begin distributing Premium Motor Spirit and diesel nationwide, with free logistics support for major consumers.”

The statement described the initiative as part of a broader commitment to cutting logistics costs, improving energy efficiency, and supporting economic growth.

Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group and founder of the refinery, had earlier hinted at an upcoming “shakedown” in Nigeria’s downstream sector. He clarified that the focus would not be on reducing prices, but rather on overhauling the entire fuel distribution system.

His comments followed President Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to the $20 billion facility in Lekki, Lagos.

The announcement comes as Lagos tanker drivers threaten to suspend fuel loading operations over a N12,500 E-Call Up fee on the Lekki-Epe corridor, which they claim is unaffordable.

The new Dangote initiative also includes a credit scheme for bulk buyers purchasing 500,000 litres or more.

The programme is expected to revive idle filling stations, ease inflationary pressure, empower small businesses, and reinforce the Tinubu administration’s broader economic reforms.

More updates are expected soon.
