Popular Nigerian media personality, Okuneye Idris, widely known as Bobrisky, has criticised members of the National Assembly for remaining silent on the recent wave of killings in Benue State.
In a post shared on Instagram on Monday, Bobrisky expressed frustration that lawmakers failed to urgently address the violence in Benue, despite having previously acted swiftly on issues related to him.
“Senators and House of Representatives members didn’t call an urgent meeting over the killings in Benue.
But they could convene quickly when it was about Bobrisky. Shame, shame! What a shameful country,” he wrote.
Bobrisky was charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in 2024 for abusing the Nigerian currency.
Though convicted, reports later emerged that he did not serve time in prison, sparking public debate.
The media personality’s criticism comes as outrage continues to grow over the reported killing of nearly 200 people in Benue State during a two-day attack by suspected herders. Social media users have called on the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in the state.
Many Nigerians have drawn comparisons between the government’s silence on Benue and its swift reaction to the political crisis in Rivers State earlier this year, which led to the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the declaration of a state of emergency—despite no reported deaths.
