The Ojora of Ijora and Iganmu Kingdom, Oba AbdulFatai Oyegbemi, has removed six chiefs from their positions for attending the campaign flag-off of the Labour Party in the Apapa area of Lagos State without his approval.
According to the monarch, the chiefs violated palace protocol by impersonating him at the political gathering and attending the event without prior consultation or consent.
The affected chiefs are Chief Lateef Ojora (Bale Alaba Oro), Chief Saliu Biliamin (Bale Alafia Dodoro), Chief Taiwo Hassan (Bale Oke Ira), Chief Idris Ojora (Bale Abule Kere), Chief Hakeem Oseni (Bale Mosafejo Amukoko), and Chief Sule Balogun (Balogun of Abule Kere).
Following a palace meeting on Monday, Oba Oyegbemi described their conduct as unacceptable.
In a statement made available on Tuesday, the monarch said he had summoned the affected chiefs and the Ojora Council to clarify the incident.
“In a tone marked by disappointment and authority, Kabiyesi stated that the chiefs’ actions were a breach of their responsibilities,” the statement read. “He emphasized that no chief is permitted to act or speak on his behalf without his explicit approval, as they are all representatives of the throne and custodians of tradition.”
The dethronement, the monarch said, was a decisive move to preserve order and discipline within the kingdom’s leadership.
During the meeting, Oba Oyegbemi also praised the current administration for its ongoing development efforts in the Ojora domain, reaffirming his commitment to supporting government initiatives that promote progress in the community.
He further reminded all palace chiefs of the importance of transparency, loyalty, and collaboration in political and traditional affairs, stressing their duty to uphold the values of the Ojora Kingdom.
