The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed speculation about a northern plot against President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, describing such claims as baseless and misleading.
Speaking during a media roundtable organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zone B, in Ibadan, Oyo State, APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, firmly denied the existence of any regional gang-up against the president.
“It is a lie from the pit of hell to suggest that the North is conspiring against Tinubu.
I speak from a position of knowledge,” Bashiru said. “I am not one to make casual claims. Like Amilcar Cabral said, ‘Tell no lies, claim no easy victories.’”
He noted that President Tinubu continues to enjoy strong support in several northern states, citing warm receptions and street celebrations in places like Katsina, Kano, Kaduna, and Gombe.
According to him, the widespread popularity of the song ‘Omo Ologo’, composed by Dauda Kahutu Rarara in support of Tinubu, is a testament to the president’s acceptance in the region.
Bashiru also dismissed the newly formed opposition coalition as a weak and disjointed alliance.
He described it as a “mushroom party” made up of politically irrelevant individuals more interested in personal gain than national progress.
