Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State has imposed a 24-hour curfew on Lamurde Local Government Area in response to recent violent incidents that have threatened peace in the area.
The announcement was made on Saturday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, in a statement issued in Yola.
According to the statement, the curfew takes immediate effect and aims to curb further violence and restore order to the affected communities.
“The government considers the recent unrest unacceptable and has directed security agencies to enforce the curfew without exception,” the statement read.
Governor Fintiri warned that anyone found violating the curfew would face arrest and prosecution in accordance with the law.
He urged residents to comply with the directive and support security agencies with credible information that could aid in restoring peace.
“The government will not tolerate acts of violence and is fully committed to safeguarding lives and property,” the statement added.
Fintiri also appealed to citizens to avoid spreading rumors and to cooperate with authorities, assuring that every necessary step is being taken to ensure the safety and security of all residents in Lamurde.
