Australian grandmother, 56, gives birth to twins with 39-year-old Nigerian husband after IVF journey

Angela Peters, a 56-year-old grandmother from Australia, has defied expectations by giving birth to twin girls with her 39-year-old Nigerian husband, Bright.

The couple’s extraordinary journey—from meeting online to undergoing IVF treatment in Nigeria—has captured global attention and inspired many.

Their story began in 2020 when Peters connected with Bright through a dating app, originally chatting with his older brother, Emeka. A family photo changed everything, and Peters said she felt an instant connection upon seeing Bright.

After nine months of virtual conversations, she flew to Nigeria in 2021, where they married just nine days after meeting in person.

Though already a mother of five with 12 grandchildren, Peters said she was moved by her younger husband’s deep desire to become a father.

Faced with age restrictions on fertility treatment in Australia, she turned to Nigeria, where doctors offered hope through IVF with a donor egg and Bright’s sperm.

In December 2023, Peters discovered she was pregnant—just as Bright had once predicted—and in August 2024, the couple welcomed twin daughters, Khorus and Knowyn.

Despite criticism and concerns about her age, Peters described the pregnancy as her smoothest and documented the journey on TikTok to inspire other women.

Her daughter Deina admitted she was initially worried, but now praises her mother’s strength and love for her new daughters.

Peters hopes her experience encourages women not to give up on their dreams: “To those who dream of motherhood later in life, don’t lose hope.”
