The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested 11 men in connection with the alleged abuse of a 13-year-old girl with a mental health condition in Tungar Giwa village, Shanga Local Government Area.

In a statement released Saturday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, said the arrests followed credible intelligence and were part of ongoing efforts to curb gender-based violence in the state.

According to the statement, officers from the Shanga Division apprehended the suspects on July 13, 2025.

They were identified as Ibrahim Bakanike, Danladi Nauyi, Danjuma Meli, Ibrahim Dankura, Ibrahim Isiaka, Masta Maishayi, Bello Muhammad, Danjuma Kodo, Aminu Isah, Zayyanu Isah, and Ahmed Usman.

The individuals are alleged to have taken advantage of the young girl’s condition over time, offering her small amounts of money before engaging in exploitative acts that resulted in a pregnancy. The girl has since given birth to a baby boy on July 8, 2025.

Preliminary investigations reportedly show that all arrested suspects have confessed.

Police are currently working to locate two additional individuals believed to be involved.

Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that justice is served.

He also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals and addressing all forms of gender-based violence across Kebbi State.
