A man identified as Amos Daniel has been arrested for allegedly killing a woman believed to be his girlfriend at a hotel in the Ayobo area of Lagos State.

The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday. Daniel had checked into the hotel around 5 p.m. with two other men. A woman later joined them.

By 10 p.m., guests and staff at the hotel were alerted by strange noises coming from the room the group had occupied.

A fellow guest, who identified himself simply as Adio, said security personnel were called when no one responded to repeated knocks on the door.

“The noise was disturbing. One of the security staff came, knocked, and when no one answered, they used the spare key to open the door.

That was when we saw the woman lying in a pool of blood,” Adio recounted.

Panic broke out after the discovery, and a search began for the other occupants of the room, who had fled the scene. A hotel staff member said Daniel was caught on the premises while attempting to escape.

“We discovered that two of the guests had left. We suspected the third might still be around. As we searched, we saw him running toward the gate.

He was caught and beaten before the police arrived,” the staff member said.

While being apprehended, Daniel allegedly confessed that he and his two friends planned the killing for ritual purposes.

The victim, identified as Endurance, was reportedly from Akwa Ibom State.

Confirming the incident, Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, said the hotel manager reported the matter to Ayobo Police Station on Friday.

According to Hundeyin, “The manager stated that at about 1 p.m. on Thursday, a man named Amos Daniel, whose home address is unknown, booked a room with some friends and checked in by 5 p.m. Later that evening, around 8 p.m., the manager heard strange noises from the room. Upon investigating, the lifeless body of a woman was found in a pool of blood with multiple injuries caused by a sharp object.”

Hundeyin added that Daniel tried to flee but was apprehended by the hotel staff.

During the chase, a dagger believed to have been used in the attack reportedly fell from his possession.

Police detectives visited the scene, took photographs, and recovered several items from Daniel’s room and surroundings, including an axe, machete, jack knives, a pair of scissors, a laptop, a cutlass, a service jungle boot, a local sponge, and other objects.

The victim’s body has been deposited at the Mainland General Hospital morgue in Yaba for autopsy.

The case and all related evidence have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yaba, for further investigation.

This incident comes months after the Lagos State Police Command arrested another man in February, 23-year-old Gbolahan Adebayo, for allegedly beating his girlfriend to death in Ijedodo, Alimosho.

The young woman was reportedly heard crying for help before she died.

Adebayo later raised an alarm when he found her unresponsive the next morning.
