A 500-level student of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Victor Onakoya, has been arrested following a tragic accident that claimed the lives of a couple in the Ago-Iwoye area of Ogun State.

The incident occurred early Wednesday morning along Igan Road, when Onakoya’s Toyota Camry collided with a motorcycle carrying the victims.

The female passenger, identified as Shadia Oshifuyi, died instantly, while the motorcyclist, Dare Adeyemi, later died from his injuries at the hospital.

A senior police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the suspect was apprehended after a crowd attempted to mob him at the scene. Police intervened and rescued the student, who is now in custody.

Initial reports had confirmed one fatality and one injury, but further investigations revealed that both victims were a married couple heading from Ago-Iwoye to B3 Junction when the accident occurred.

Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), had earlier stated that the accident involved a wine-colored Toyota Camry with plate number JJJ 168 GY and a red Bajaj motorcycle with plate number KNN 873 ZY.

According to eyewitnesses, reckless driving by the Camry driver caused the vehicle to veer into the opposite lane and crash into the motorcycle head-on.

A police source confirmed the full details: “At about 6:20 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, a fatal road traffic accident occurred involving a Toyota Camry and a Bajaj motorcycle.

The car reportedly lost control and rammed into the motorcycle, killing the female passenger on the spot.”

The motorcyclist sustained severe injuries to his limbs and was rushed to Detomi Hospital, Molipa, Ijebu Ode, where he was later pronounced dead.

“The incident nearly led to a lynching, but the police were able to disperse the angry mob and prevent the vehicle from being set ablaze,” the source added. “The driver was taken into protective custody and is currently being interrogated.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at the General Hospital Morgue in Ijebu Igbo for autopsy.”

As of Sunday evening, Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, had yet to issue an official statement regarding the case.
