Operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun, have arrested seven suspects and recovered stolen items and electronics valued at over N300 million.
The suspects were paraded on Thursday at the agency’s headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure. Commander of the corps, Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, said the arrests were part of efforts to curb crime across the state.
“Beyond arresting suspects, we are more focused on the recovery and protection of lives and property,” Adeleye stated.
He added that recent operations had helped reduce cases of kidnapping, armed robbery, burglary, and cultism.
One group of suspects was linked to a syndicate involved in the theft of electronics.
The items, mainly phones and gadgets, were reportedly stolen in Lagos and moved to Ondo through Ojota Motor Park.
One suspect, who boarded the same vehicle as the stolen goods, allegedly repackaged them during the trip.
The deception was discovered during a stopover for fuel, which led to further investigations and the recovery of the goods.
Adeleye said the items belonged to a licensed electronics dealer and would be returned after court processes were completed.
Also among those paraded were suspects involved in a recent kidnapping along Itagbolu Road.
Two abducted victims were rescued after spending 96 hours in captivity. Although the kidnappers demanded N50 million in ransom, the families did not pay, and the victims were freed by Amotekun operatives.
“We encourage residents not to pay ransom,” Adeleye advised, noting that most kidnap cases in the past two months were resolved without payment.
Other suspects included a gang leader who had been on the run for six months, a repeat offender who jumped bail and fled to Kano before being rearrested, and a man allegedly involved in violent clashes with herders.
