The Kano Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured the conviction of two men, Buhari Abdullahi and Umar Usman, who posed as officials of the anti-graft agency.
They were arraigned before Justice Nasiru Saminu of the Kano State High Court on a one-count charge of impersonation.
According to the EFCC, the duo falsely presented themselves as EFCC investigators using forged identity cards to support their fraudulent claims.
The charge read: “That you, Buhari Abdullahi and Umar Mukhtar Usman, sometime in May 2025 in Kano, falsely presented yourselves as investigators of the EFCC by using fake identity cards, thereby committing an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 132 of the Penal Code Law.”
Both defendants pleaded guilty to the charge during their arraignment.
Following their plea, EFCC counsel Idris I. Haruna presented the facts of the case and urged the court to convict the defendants.
Justice Saminu found them guilty and sentenced each of them to six months imprisonment.
However, the court gave them the option of paying a fine of ₦50,000 each.
The duo were arrested by EFCC operatives before being charged and convicted.
