Two Nigerians arrested in India for visa violation, suspected drug activities

Indian authorities have arrested two Nigerian nationals in Hyderabad over immigration violations and suspected involvement in drug-related activities.

The suspects, identified as 29-year-old Aful Clement and 19-year-old Lazarus Favour, were apprehended on Wednesday by the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) in the Tolichowki area.

Reports from Metro India revealed that Clement had previously entered India on a business visa but was arrested in 2022 for a fraud-related offense in Chandigarh, for which he served a six-month jail term.

Following his release, he remained in India illegally, residing in Delhi despite his visa expiring in 2019.

Lazarus entered the country on a student visa to pursue studies in science and technology but allegedly became involved in drug-related activities.

Both individuals had reportedly relocated from Bengaluru to Hyderabad before their arrest.

Although no narcotics were found in their possession at the time of arrest, authorities believe they were connected to drug peddling networks.

Their presence was considered a threat to national security, prompting H-NEW to collaborate with the Foreigners Regional Registration Office to initiate deportation procedures.
