Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, on Monday evening announced the suspension of 87 top government officials for failing to attend a state-organized function.
Those affected include 25 commissioners, 14 senior special assistants, 24 special assistants, and 22 permanent secretaries.
The development was made public in a statement signed by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.
According to the statement, the officials are to proceed on a one-month working suspension without pay. During this period, they are also barred from signing any official documents.
“The governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has directed that the underlisted government functionaries proceed on one-month working suspension without salary for failure to attend an important government function,” the statement read in part.
Commissioners affected by the suspension have been instructed to hand over immediately to their respective permanent secretaries.
Among the high-profile names listed are Stanley Lebechi Mbam, Prof. Leonard Uguru, Dr. Mathew Nwobashi, Prof. Nwogo Obasi, Ikeuwa Omebe, Chief Sunday Inyima, and Stanley Ogbuewu.
The statement emphasized that Governor Nwifuru remains committed to instilling discipline, accountability, and dedication within the ranks of government.
“The governor is determined to ensure that all government officials uphold the highest standards of conduct in the discharge of their duties and in service to the people of Ebonyi State,” the CPS added.
