The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 225 suspected drug offenders and seized more than 654 kilograms of illicit substances in Osun State between January and June 2025.
Speaking on Monday in Osogbo, the state commander of the NDLEA, Oluwarotimi Adetula, said the arrests comprised 174 males and 51 females.
During the period under review, 43 suspects, 40 men and three women, were prosecuted, resulting in 22 convictions.
Adetula disclosed that the agency seized 654.424 kilograms of various narcotics, including 502.932 kg of cannabis sativa, 3.4 kg of cocaine, 62.692 kg of psychotropic substances, and 85.4 kg of methamphetamine.
As part of its preventive efforts, the NDLEA conducted 125 sensitisation and awareness campaigns across the state.
A total of 116 drug users received counselling, while two individuals underwent rehabilitation.
The agency also destroyed two cannabis farms during its operations.
Adetula noted that the agency’s activities align with the National Drug Control Master Plan (NDCMP), which focuses on both supply and demand reduction strategies in tackling drug abuse.
“The supply reduction strategy targets cultivators, producers, and traffickers of illegal drugs,” he said. “On the other hand, the demand reduction approach involves drug abuse prevention education in schools and communities, advocacy visits, and the treatment and rehabilitation of drug users.”
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to making Osun State a hostile environment for drug traffickers and called on residents to support the NDLEA’s efforts in curbing drug abuse.
