A Sharia Court in the Magajin Gari area of Kaduna State has directed a man, Ahmad Saidu, to ensure his pregnant ex wife receives proper medical attention amid ongoing legal proceedings regarding their separation.
The presiding judge, Kabir Muhammad, issued the order on Tuesday following a complaint by the ex wife, Safiya Usman, who told the court she had been unwell and experienced bleeding during her six month pregnancy.
She accused Saidu of neglecting her health concerns.
Usman also urged the court to confirm her divorce from Saidu, after four years of marriage, and to compel him to take responsibility for her prenatal care.
When asked about the financial support required, Usman told the court she was willing to accept whatever her former husband could afford. Saidu responded by offering to contribute ₦5000 monthly toward her care.
The court adjourned the matter to August 20 and ordered Saidu to present a medical report on the condition of the pregnancy at the next hearing.
