The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested seven suspected drug barons and several other criminal suspects during a series of intelligence-led operations carried out across the state between July 27 and August 1, 2025.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the command’s spokesperson, SP Shi’isu Adam, in Dutse.

According to the statement, the operations resulted in the recovery of large quantities of illicit drugs, stolen items, and vandalised government property.

The state Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, commended the officers involved for their swift and effective action.

“We will continue to ensure a safer and more secure environment for all,” Muhammad assured.

In one of the operations in Dutse, seven suspected drug dealers were arrested with substantial quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and other illicit substances.

A major drug trafficker was also apprehended in Ringim with similar banned substances. All suspects are currently in custody and assisting with investigations.

In Hadejia, two additional suspected drug dealers were arrested and will be transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.

Similarly, in Kiyawa, police arrested five suspects in possession of psychotropic drugs, including D5 and Exol tablets. The suspects remain in custody pending prosecution.

The command also made progress in tackling property-related crimes.

In Birnin Kudu, a suspect was caught with vandalised cable wires believed to belong to the government. In Kazaure, three individuals were arrested for burglary and found with stolen Android phones.

The suspects reportedly confessed to the crimes and will be charged to court.

A suspected motorcycle thief, Jibrin Muhammad, was arrested in Gujungu village.

The stolen motorcycle was recovered, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend his accomplices.

In Taura Local Government Area, two suspected tricycle thieves, identified as Nazifi Ahmed and Salma Haruna, were arrested and a stolen tricycle recovered.

The police urged residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information, warning that criminal elements would face the full weight of the law if caught.

“We will not relent in our efforts to rid Jigawa of crime and ensure peace and safety for all residents,” SP Adam added.
