The Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) has secured the conviction of Mr. Wahab Olabanji, a senior government employee, for fraudulently collecting money from job seekers under the guise of securing employment for them in the state civil service.
Olabanji, who served as a Chief Executive Officer (Accounts) on Grade Level 14 with the Oyo State Hospital Management Board, was accused of defrauding multiple applicants who applied for jobs at the board and the Oyo State Teaching Service Commission.
In a statement issued in Ibadan on Tuesday, the Chairman of OYACA, Justice Eni Esan (retd.), revealed that Olabanji was convicted on a 30-count charge of official corruption, obtaining money under false pretence, and unlawful conversion.
She disclosed that after a 17-month trial, the court, on Friday, August 1, 2025, found the defendant guilty on all counts and sentenced him to six months’ imprisonment on each count, with an option of a N50,000 fine per charge.
“The court also ordered the convict to refund all the monies fraudulently collected from his victims within three months as restitution,” Justice Esan stated.
She reiterated the agency’s firm commitment to stamping out corruption in the public service, warning that any government official found engaging in fraudulent practices would face the full weight of the law.
“This conviction sends a clear message that corruption will not be tolerated in any form within Oyo State’s public institutions,” she added.
