Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have intercepted an armed robbery attempt in Premier Layout, Enugu, killing one suspect and recovering firearms, ammunition, and other items.
This was disclosed in a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) by the Command and obtained by Promote News.
The Command said the incident happened at about 4:10 a.m. on August 6, 2025, after a distress call was received by the Independence Layout Police Division about a robbery in progress.
The Divisional Police Officer, working with members of the Neighbourhood Watch Group, quickly mobilised to the scene. On arrival, the robbers reportedly opened fire on the security team, triggering shootout in which one of the suspects was killed while others fled.
A search of the scene led to the recovery of a cut-to-size locally made single-barrel gun with one live cartridge, a locally fabricated Beretta pistol with one live round, a Nokia torchlight phone said to belong to the suspect, two iPhones believed to belong to victims, a small red bag, a red-and-black torchlight, and ₦9,000 in ₦1,000 notes.
Further investigations on August 8 reportedly led to the discovery of a pump-action gun loaded with four live cartridges, believed to have been abandoned in the area by the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, praised the officers for their professionalism and bravery, stressing the Command’s resolve to clamp down on violent crimes. He urged residents to remain alert and promptly provide credible information to aid security efforts.
