Panic has gripped Yelwata community in Benue State following a fresh gun attack in the early hours of Monday, leaving an unspecified number of people shot.
Eyewitnesses said the assault sparked outrage among residents, with local women staging a protest to demand the withdrawal of soldiers stationed in the area.
The demonstrators, carrying placards, also called for immediate evacuation to Makurdi, citing a lack of security.
“They should take us to Makurdi because the government cannot protect us,” one protester said.
Monday’s incident comes less than two months after suspected herders attacked the same community on June 13, killing over 200 people, including internally displaced persons, with many victims burned alive.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the latest violence.
