University bans sign-out celebrations after campus accident

The management of the Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has prohibited sign-out celebrations for graduating students, following a recent fatal accident involving two tricycles near the university’s campus.

Sign-out events, a long-standing tradition among final-year students, typically involve signing classmates’ shirts and engaging in social activities after final examinations.

However, the university says safety concerns have made the practice unacceptable.

In a statement on Wednesday, Registrar Malam Nuradeen Abdu announced that the celebrations would no longer be allowed at the Permanent Site Campus Gate.

He directed that any such activities must be confined to faculty premises, without the use of public address systems.

The statement also banned driving or running around with cars during celebrations, warning that violations would attract immediate disciplinary action.

“The safety of our students is our top priority. We urge everyone to abide by these directives to prevent further avoidable incidents,” the university said.
