A malfunctioning aircraft door forced British Airways to offload 58 passengers from its Abuja–London flight on Friday.
Spokesperson for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Michael Achimugu, confirmed the development in a post on X, explaining that safety regulations required the airline to leave some seats vacant due to the fault.
He said 28 affected passengers opted to return home, while 30 accepted hotel accommodation provided by the airline. “Arrangements are being made to airlift them tomorrow morning,” Achimugu stated, adding that those affected are entitled to file for compensation.
The NCAA urged passengers in similar situations to immediately contact its Consumer Protection Officers at the airport to ensure their rights are upheld in the event of flight delays or cancellations.
