Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have killed a suspected armed robber identified simply as Blessing, who allegedly operated from a refuse dump in the Katangua area of Abule Egba.
Police said the suspect was shot dead in the early hours of Thursday during a gun battle after operatives stormed the dump site at about 1:30 a.m., acting on intelligence from a previously arrested robbery suspect, Yakubu Adeyemi, 43.
State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said Blessing opened fire on officers, prompting them to return fire.
The suspect sustained bullet wounds and was rushed to Oke Odo General Hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
Recovered from the scene were an AK-47 rifle with five rounds of ammunition, a locally-made single-barrel pistol, and four live cartridges.
Hundeyin added that the body had been deposited at the Mainland Hospital mortuary for autopsy, while efforts were underway to apprehend other fleeing gang members.
