FRSC Lagos begins implementation of E-ticketing system

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commenced the adoption of electronic ticketing in Lagos State as part of efforts to phase out the traditional booking sheet system.

Chief Route Commander Victor Okelola, who heads the Costain Unit Command of the FRSC in Lagos, confirmed the development in an interview with journalists.

He said the e-ticket system, already in use across the state, has improved efficiency and will provide more accurate data for enforcement and planning.

“This is part of our strategic goal for 2025. The adoption of technology in ticketing will help us streamline operations and ensure accountability,” Okelola explained.

He dismissed claims that FRSC fines are excessive, stressing that the penalties are prescribed by law and can only be amended by the National Assembly.

According to him, fines range from a minimum of ₦2,000 to a maximum of ₦50,000, all of which are paid directly into the government treasury.

Okelola further clarified that motorists issued tickets have seven days to settle their fines, during which their vehicle documents remain in FRSC custody.

Vehicles, however, are not impounded except in cases of dangerous driving or when drivers are caught without valid licences.

“This system allows drivers to continue using their vehicles while ensuring compliance. Only serious violations like driving without a licence or reckless driving attract immediate impoundment,” he said.
