The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Folajinmi Oyekunle, has emerged winner of the Ibadan North Federal Constituency by-election held on Saturday across the constituency’s 12 wards.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Abiodun Oluwadare of the University of Ibadan, declared the results at the collation centre, Ikolaba High School, Ibadan.

According to him, Oyekunle polled 18,404 votes to defeat his closest rival, Adewale “Murphy” Olatunji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who garnered 8,312 votes.

Femi Akin-Alamu of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) secured 88 votes, while Olabisi Olajumoke of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) scored 40.

The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate, Hammed Badmus, recorded 18 votes.

Prof. Oluwadare said Oyekunle, having met all legal requirements, was duly returned elected.

The by-election followed the death of Musiliu Akinremi, popularly known as Jagaban, whose passing created the vacant seat in the House of Representatives.

Saturday’s outcome marks a major political gain for the PDP, which reclaimed the constituency seat for the first time since 2011.
