A 38-year-old man, Babalola Abideen, was on Monday arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State for allegedly defrauding a complainant of a tricycle valued at ₦3 million.

Abideen, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing, and obtaining property under false pretence.

Police prosecutor, ASP E. O. Adaraloye, told the court that the defendant and others still at large committed the offence on July 3 at No. 10 Queen Avenue, Beye De Bells, Ota.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant obtained a tricycle with registration number MUS 982 QF on hire purchase from one David Abiodun, under the agreement to remit ₦7,000 daily, but failed to fulfil the terms.

The alleged offences contravene Sections 319, 387 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

Abideen, however, pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate O. O. Fadairo granted him bail in the sum of ₦300,000 with one surety in like sum.

The surety, the court ruled, must reside within the jurisdiction, be gainfully employed, and present evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government.

The case was adjourned to August 25 for further hearing.
