BREAKING: NCAA summons Ibom Air crew, passenger over flight incident

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has invited an Ibom Air cabin crew member, Juliana Edward, and a passenger, Comfort Emmanson, for further investigation into a reported incident on an Uyo–Lagos flight on August 10.

The NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, confirmed this on Tuesday during a question-and-answer session at the Emergency National Civil Aviation Security Committee and Stakeholders Meeting held in Abuja.

Achimugu said he had spoken with Emmanson earlier in the day and disclosed that both she and the crew member had been summoned to appear before the authority on Wednesday.

“I have spoken with Ms. Emmanson this morning. We are also inviting the Ibom Air cabin crew for continued investigation on the incident. They will be here tomorrow,” he stated.

He explained that contrary to speculation, the pilot did not call in security operatives upon arrival in Lagos, as the matter appeared to have been resolved in-flight.

However, he noted that Emmanson, who went to the restroom after landing, was the last passenger to disembark.

Reiterating the NCAA’s commitment to transparency, Achimugu assured the public that the authority would establish the facts of the case.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Aviation, Senator Buhari Abdulfatai, attributed rising cases of misconduct in the aviation sector to a decline in discipline among passengers, airport staff, and crew.

He stressed the need for strict adherence to professional standards and commended the NCAA for its enforcement measures, urging other aviation agencies to support efforts to maintain safety and security in the industry.
