A 50-year-old woman from Lafayette, Indiana, has been arrested for allegedly plotting to kidnap and assassinate President Donald Trump.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia announced on Monday that Nathalie Rose Jones was taken into custody on August 16, 2025, after federal investigators linked her to a series of threatening social media posts.
According to prosecutors, Jones wrote graphic messages on Facebook and Instagram, declaring she was prepared to “sacrificially kill” the president and describing in detail how she intended to carry out the attack. She also referred to an “arrest and removal ceremony” for Trump.
The U.S. Secret Service opened an investigation and interviewed Jones on August 15. Officials said she admitted to making the threats and told agents she would kill the president “if given the opportunity,” citing anger over the COVID-19 pandemic. She later recanted, claiming she no longer intended to harm him.
Jones faces two federal charges: threatening the life of the president and transmitting interstate communications containing threats to kidnap or injure. Each count carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
“Threatening the life of the President is one of the most serious crimes and one that will be met with swift and unwavering prosecution,” U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said in a statement.
Court documents indicate Jones has a history of mental illness, which she acknowledged in her posts.
It remains unclear whether she has secured legal representation.
