The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has rescued 20 Ghanaians, comprising 10 males and 10 females, who were allegedly trafficked into Uyo Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, confirmed the rescue in a statement issued in Uyo on Wednesday. She said the victims were freed from a compound in Obio Etoi village, following a joint operation that stemmed from a request for assistance by the Ghana Police Service and INTERPOL.
According to her, the operation was carried out at about 4:17 p.m. on Monday, August 18, 2025, after officers acting on intelligence surrounded the building where the victims were held.
“The victims appeared disoriented and unable to speak, leading investigators to suspect they may have been hypnotised,” DSP John stated.
She added that investigation into the trafficking network was ongoing and assured that updates would be provided as the case unfolds.
