The Benue State House of Assembly on Friday suspended four members over allegations of plotting to remove the Speaker, Hyacinth Dajoh.
The suspended lawmakers are Alfred Aondoaver (Makurdi North), Shimawua Emmanuel (Vandeikya II), Cyril Ikong (Oju II), and Abu Umoru James (Apa).
They were accused of holding a secret meeting at the Government House to mobilise support for the Speaker’s impeachment.
The Majority Leader, Saater Tiseer, who moved the motion, said the action of the members was an attempt to destabilise the Assembly despite a recent vote of confidence in both the Speaker and Governor Hyacinth Alia.
“On Wednesday, 20 August 2025, the House in the spirit of unity passed a vote of confidence in the House leadership and the Governor of Benue State.
Barely three days later, Hon. Alfred Aondoaver and three others went behind to mobilise other members to cause chaos in the House,” Tiseer said.
The motion was adopted during plenary, presided over by the Speaker, resulting in the suspension of the four lawmakers for six months.
Meanwhile, the Assembly confirmed four of the eight commissioner-nominees forwarded by Governor Alia.
