The Enugu State Police Command has arrested eight suspects and recovered eight stolen vehicles in a series of operations carried out across the state between August 8 and 21.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, who confirmed the development in a statement on Friday, said the operations also led to the recovery of motorcycles, vehicle number plates and keys.

He described the successes as proof of the command’s “unwavering commitment to ridding the state of criminal elements.”

According to him, operatives of the SWAT team on August 21 arrested three suspects — Eze Obinna (44), Jideofor Igwumba (35) and Martina Okwor Ada (49) — with a stolen Toyota Kluger SUV, which had been refurbished for sale in Awka, Anambra State, after being stolen from Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, in July.

On August 19, operatives attached to Ozalla Division intercepted a gang along the Udi/Ozalla Road, arresting one suspect, Somadina Udeh (26), while others escaped.

Two Toyota Hiace buses, including one earlier stolen in Udi LGA, were recovered.

Similarly, on August 12, the Anti-Kidnapping Tactical Squad arrested Chigozie Ebisike (42) and recovered a Toyota Corolla.

His confession led to the recovery of two additional vehicles — a Toyota Sienna and a Lexus 350 — alongside number plates and registration particulars.

Earlier on August 8, three suspects — Nwafor Chinenye (35), Chidera Ezeoha (32) and Ekete Joseph (41) — were arrested for robbery involving a motorcycle and a Samsung Galaxy S8 phone.

The stolen motorcycle and another displayed for sale at Ogbeke-Nike were recovered. The trio have since been arraigned and remanded.

Commissioner of Police, Mamman Giwa, commended the operatives and assured residents that the command would sustain the crackdown.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities promptly.
