The Kebbi State Police Command has refuted claims circulating on social media that children rescued from kidnappers were placed in a Muslim-based orphanage in Birnin Kebbi.
In a statement on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafi’u Abubakar, described the report as false, mischievous, and an attempt to discredit the command.
According to him, the publication—allegedly authored by a corps member—falsely claimed that a four-year-old boy named Uzochukwu was found in an orphanage, where he reportedly said policemen had arrested his abductors, charged them to court, and later kept him and other Christian children in the facility.
“The command categorically refutes the publication, condemning it as a mischievous narrative calculated to undermine the integrity, unwavering commitment and professionalism of officers in their relentless efforts to combat crime and criminality in Kebbi State,” the statement read.
The police urged the public to disregard the report and cautioned those spreading such rumours to desist from acts capable of causing mistrust and disaffection.
Abubakar added that the command would continue to collaborate with credible media professionals to keep residents informed about police operations while tackling the spread of fake news in the state.
