The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old suspected vandal said to be notorious in the state.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Timfon John, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Uyo.
She said the arrest was carried out during an intelligence-led raid around 9:30 p.m. on August 18.
According to her, the suspect, a native of Midim Water Side, had been on the run after being declared wanted for vandalising school buildings and private residences in the area.
“Upon arrival, officers sighted the suspect and several other unidentified individuals. The suspect was apprehended during the raid, while the others escaped into a nearby creek on sighting the police vehicle,” John said.
Items recovered at the scene included a handbag containing dried leaves suspected to be cannabis, four door handles, a mini flashlight, and several damaged door lock parts.
John confirmed that the suspect is currently in police custody, adding that victims of recent vandalism in the area have been urged to come forward to aid investigations and prosecution.
