ADC slams PDP govs’ meeting after deadly attacks

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for holding a political gathering in Zamfara State shortly after gunmen killed and abducted scores of residents in a string of violent attacks.

Gunmen recently raided communities across several local government areas in Zamfara, leaving 24 people dead, 16 injured and 144 others kidnapped. The incident has continued to draw outrage across the country.

Despite the tragedy, PDP governors convened a meeting in the state on Saturday, August 23, a move the ADC described as “insensitive” and disrespectful to the victims.

In a statement on Sunday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said the governors had “staged a political rally at the scene of mass murder” instead of supporting their colleague in addressing the crisis.

“The photos of PDP governors in full ceremonial robes, grinning for the camera, are totally out of place in an environment that still reeks of blood and sorrow,” Abdullahi said.

The ADC also accused both the PDP and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of neglecting citizens’ welfare in favour of political interests. “Neither the ruling APC nor the incurably afflicted PDP care about the people and their suffering.

They only care about power and politics,” the statement read.

The party further faulted President Bola Tinubu for what it called his failure to respond adequately to the escalating violence in Zamfara and neighbouring Katsina State.
