The Delta State Police Command says it has arrested a nine-man robbery gang allegedly responsible for terrorising communities in parts of Delta and neighbouring Edo State.
Police spokesperson Bright Edafe, in a statement on Saturday, disclosed that the suspects were apprehended between August 11 and 16 at different locations by operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team, following credible intelligence.
According to him, the syndicate specialised in hypnotising unsuspecting victims before dispossessing them of valuables, including mobile phones, motorcycles, jewellery and funds withdrawn from bank accounts.
“The suspects operate mainly in Warri, Ughelli and other parts of Delta and Edo States,” Edafe stated.
Items recovered from the suspects include two Toyota Camry vehicles and 16 suspected stolen iPhones.
Preliminary investigations, Edafe added, revealed that the gang defrauded victims of about ₦23.5 million and stole at least 42 ladies’ motorcycles.
He confirmed that the suspects and recovered exhibits remain in police custody, while further investigations are ongoing.
