The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has disowned and ordered the arrest of a former staff member, Olakunle Alex Folarin, for allegedly parading himself as a serving officer on a social media matchmaking programme.
In a strongly-worded statement released on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, the anti-graft agency clarified that Folarin was recently dismissed from service for certificate forgery.
He was employed as a driver at the Commission’s Ibadan Zonal Directorate and not an investigative officer as he reportedly claimed.
The EFCC stated that its Executive Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, has directed operatives to apprehend Folarin for being in possession of official properties, including an Identity Card, which he failed to surrender after his dismissal.
The former driver came under the Commission’s scrutiny after he appeared on a matchmaking programme run by Lege Miami on social media, where he was introduced with affiliations to the EFCC.
The Commission has urged the public to disregard any of Folarin’s activities and conduct following his dismissal, warning that they should not be associated with the EFCC.
“The public is advised against associating Folarin’s post-dismissal conduct with the EFCC,” the statement read.
