The Anambra State Police Command has begun an investigation into a shocking case in Igboukwu, Aguata Local Government Area, where a young man was allegedly chained by his father for five years.
The victim, identified as Chigbo, also known as Agudo, was reportedly confined while his father told neighbours that his son had traveled abroad. The disturbing revelation came to light after vigilant community youths alerted the authorities.
State Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, described the incident as deeply troubling and commended the youths for their role in exposing the case, highlighting it as a strong example of community collaboration in policing.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the victim has been rescued and is currently receiving medical attention.
He added that preliminary investigations are ongoing and assured that those responsible would face prosecution in accordance with the law.
In a separate operation, police operatives working with local vigilantes arrested a 24-year-old suspected serial vehicle thief, Chidi Nwoye, along Minaj Road, Obosi.
Police also recovered a Hyundai Tucson (Reg. No. PH 725 AAA), a tricycle (Reg. No. NSH 051 UD), eight mobile phones, a battle axe, assorted master keys, ATM cards, a vehicle tracking device, and other personal belongings including shoes, beads, a sling bag, cash, and an Apple watch.
Ikenga said the suspect admitted to using master keys to steal vehicles and tricycles and that investigations had been extended to his hideout to recover additional stolen items.
The public has been urged to visit Isiowulu Police Station to identify any recovered property.
Nwoye is expected to be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
