The Benue State House of Assembly on Tuesday suspended its former Speaker, Aondona Dajoh, for three months over allegations that he attempted to impeach Governor Hyacinth Alia.
The decision followed a motion raised by Terna Shimawua, member representing Kyan State Constituency, and seconded by James Umoru of Apa State Constituency during plenary.
Shimawua, who was among lawmakers suspended last week Friday under Dajoh’s leadership before his resignation, pushed the motion that led to the former Speaker’s sanction.
Ruling on the matter, Speaker Alfred Berger reduced the suspension period from six months to three months.
The House arrived at the decision without subjecting the motion to a vote, as is customary in such cases.
