The Delta State Police Command has arrested four of its officers after a video showing them counting bundles of cash inside a patrol vehicle in Asaba went viral on social media.
The footage, which sparked public outrage, showed the policemen handling the money in a van marked Area Command Asaba, prompting suspicions that the cash was linked to extortion.
Confirming the development on Tuesday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, said the officers were swiftly tracked and paraded before the Commissioner of Police.
“The policemen in the embarrassing video have been identified and arrested. They appeared before the CP today,” Edafe stated in a post on X.
He disclosed that two senior officers had been issued queries, while two inspectors had been detained pending an orderly room trial — the internal disciplinary process of the Force.
Edafe assured that the command would not shield any officer found guilty of misconduct, adding that appropriate sanctions would follow after the trial.
