The All Progressives Congress in Ondo State has mobilised its members across all 203 wards in the state to ensure participation in the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise.
This was contained in a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Mr Steve Otaloro, on Thursday.
The party said it had received encouraging reports from the field following its directive for members to engage eligible citizens and encourage their participation in the democratic process.
It stated that the perceived low turnout in urban areas was due to its grassroots mobilisation strategy, which he said, focused on local communities.
The party also attributed the situation to the limited number of eligible first time voters, noting that those who turned 18 since the last registration during the governorship election were not many.
The APC described as unnecessary the blame placed on Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, stressing that the exercise was a party affair.
It said, “The governor has consistently directed the party to fulfil its responsibilities in this regard.
“While the Independent National Electoral Commission holds the primary role of educating the public about voter registration, the APC, under Governor Aiyedatiwa’s guidance, has taken the initiative to enhance awareness and mobilisation efforts through our extensive network of party members.”
