The Benue State Police Command has arrested a suspected notorious kidnap kingpin, Yusuf Muhamed, also known as “OC Torture,” along with 21 others linked to abductions in Ogbadibo Local Government Area.
Muhamed, who is physically challenged, was captured during a special operation in Orokam after operatives trailed him for several days.
He was reportedly identified by some of his victims, who confirmed his role in multiple abductions and acts of torture.
Security sources said the arrest followed a surge in kidnappings in the area, including the killing of a woman and her visiting son during a botched abduction.
The wave of violence had prompted protests by residents and led the Ogbadibo council chairman, Sunday Ajunwa, to impose a dusk-to-dawn curfew in Orokam two weeks ago.
Ajunwa confirmed the arrest, noting that the operation was carried out by a combined team of police operatives from Benue and Enugu States, vigilantes, and local youths.
“He attempted to escape, but the youths pursued and apprehended him. Victims have also testified to how he tortured them in captivity.
He is now in custody alongside 21 others,” Ajunwa said.
The chairman commended security agencies for the successful operation, adding that discussions were ongoing with stakeholders to determine whether the curfew would be lifted soon.
Police spokesperson in the state, DSP Udeme Edet, said she was yet to be officially briefed on the arrests.
