The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the gruesome killing of a middle-aged man, Dick Nnachi, who was beheaded during a clash in Oso-Edda, Edda Local Government Area of the state.
Police spokesperson, DSP Joshua Ukandu, in a statement on Sunday, described the Thursday incident as “wicked and inhumane,” noting that the crisis stemmed from a protracted land dispute between Oso-Edda and Amasiri communities in Afikpo Local Government Area.
Ukandu said operatives have been deployed to the troubled area to prevent further violence, while an investigation has been launched to uncover those behind the killing.
“The command is aware of the incident and our men are on ground.
“We are committed to identifying the perpetrators and bringing them to justice,” he stated.
He assured residents that security agencies were working to restore calm, urging both communities to respect the buffer zone earlier declared in the area by Governor Francis Nwifuru.
“My advice to the warring groups is to stay away from the buffer zone to avoid further escalation,” the police spokesperson added.
