A fire outbreak on Monday razed the radio studio of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo, destroying equipment and property valued at millions of naira.
The inferno, reportedly triggered by an electrical surge from the studio’s air-conditioning system, spread rapidly before firefighters arrived to contain it.
Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday.
He said firefighters, led by PFS 11 Makinde, responded swiftly but met the facility already engulfed in smoke and flames.
“They managed to stop the fire from spreading to other areas. No casualty was recorded, and we were able to save properties worth millions of naira,” Akinwande stated.
He further advised institutions and the public to equip their facilities with functional fire extinguishers to curb small outbreaks before they escalate.
The incident comes barely two weeks after a fire gutted the head office of Fresh FM Nigeria, owned by gospel singer Yinka Ayefele, at Challenge, Ibadan.
