Tension gripped Kwami Local Government Area of Gombe State after suspected kidnappers attacked the community, killing a popular security operative identified as Adamu Commander.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen invaded the area late Sunday night. Residents who attempted to resist the attackers were overpowered by the heavily armed assailants.
During the attack, Adamu Commander was captured and gruesomely killed before security forces could intervene.
“This is heartbreaking for everyone here. He was a respected man in Kwami, and now his wives, children, and all of us are left in deep pain and fear,” a community member said on Monday.
The deceased, described as a courageous figure in local security efforts, left behind two wives and a large family.
The incident has deepened anxiety among residents, who say insecurity in the state is worsening despite repeated appeals for government intervention.
“We feel abandoned. Communities like ours are vulnerable, and if urgent measures are not taken, no one will feel safe again,” another resident lamented.
The killing has renewed calls on authorities to intensify security operations across rural communities in Gombe, where banditry and kidnappings continue to threaten lives and livelihoods.
