The Kano State Hisbah Board has intercepted and confiscated 1,600 bottles of assorted beer during a raid in the Panshekara area of Kano metropolis.
The development was confirmed by the Deputy Commander General of the board, Dr. Mujahid Aminudeen, in a telephone interview with PUNCH Online on Wednesday.
Aminudeen explained that the operation was carried out following a tip-off, adding that the success was made possible through the cooperation of residents of the community.
“Yesterday, with the support and cooperation of the Panshekara community, our personnel were able to intercept and confiscate 1,600 bottles of beer.
“The beer was in bottles, cans and other containers made of plastic. We call on members of the public to continue to support the board in the fight against the consumption and sale of all intoxicants.
“The law which establishes the Kano State Hisbah board is clear because it prohibits the sale and consumption of beer and other intoxicants in the state,” he said.
The Hisbah chief noted that the agency would continue sensitisation campaigns to discourage residents from consuming alcohol, while also seeking a court order to destroy the seized drinks.
