Panic has gripped residents of Lekki Phase One, Lagos, following the gruesome killing of three men in their apartment on Olateju Street in the early hours of Sunday.
The victims, believed to be casual workers who survived on menial jobs and errands, were attacked while asleep in a makeshift structure within a compound on the street.
Witnesses said unidentified assailants dragged them outside before hacking them to death with machetes.
A resident, who asked not to be named for security reasons, said the victims were discovered by a colleague.
“When neighbours rushed there, the three of them were lying in a pool of blood with deep machete cuts. They were dragged out of the room before being slaughtered,” the source recounted.
Another resident, a member of the Lekki Estate Residents Association, described the incident as shocking and unprecedented in the community.
“This has never happened here before. Everyone is unsettled. Security measures are being strengthened to prevent a recurrence. The police were immediately informed,” he said.
As of press time, the motive behind the killings remained unclear.
