Police in Akwa Ibom State have arrested Chief Friday Umoren, the Village Head of Ibagwa in Abak Local Government Area, for allegedly attempting to murder his sister during a family dispute.
According to the state police command, Chief Umoren allegedly shot his sister, 32-year-old Unwana Inyang, in the head with a long single-barrel gun following an argument on September 6.
Police spokesperson, Timfon John, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, noting that a relative reported the case to authorities, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
“The victim was immediately rushed to a hospital where she is receiving treatment and is said to be in stable condition.
The suspect has been taken into custody and the firearm believed to have been used in the attack has been recovered,” the statement read.
The command assured that investigations are ongoing and pledged that justice would be served.
