The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a man who proclaimed himself as the “Obi of Lagos,” along with three others, over an alleged plot to stage an illegal installation ceremony in Amuwo Odofin.
Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, in a statement on Wednesday, said the suspects were apprehended after intelligence revealed that they had concluded plans to hold the ceremony on Saturday, September 13, 2025.
The event was also billed to feature the unveiling of a prototype for a proposed ₦1.5 billion palace.
According to the police, the principal suspect, 65-year-old Chibuike Azubike, hails from Obodoukwu Ancient Kingdom in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State. He was arrested alongside three alleged accomplices identified as Chief Chibuzor Ani (57), Chief Martins Nwaodika (65), and Mr. Ikechukwu Franklin Nnadi (41).
“The suspects attempted to mislead the public through an unlawful installation ceremony.
Acting swiftly, the command sealed off the venue and deployed operatives, including the Eko Strike Force, to ensure public order was not compromised,” Mr Oluseyi said.
The police stressed that an investigation is ongoing and that the suspects would be charged to court.
Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, urged Lagos residents to be vigilant, warning against impostors seeking to exploit traditional institutions for personal gain.
He assured that the command would deal decisively with anyone engaging in acts capable of undermining peace and public order in the state.
