Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf on Friday received Hassana and Hussaina, the Nigerian conjoined twins who returned home after undergoing a successful separation surgery in Saudi Arabia.

The girls, who arrived at Malam Aminu Kano International Airport alongside their family, were greeted by top government officials, community leaders, and representatives of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The delicate procedure was performed at King Abdullah Specialist Children’s Hospital in Riyadh in October 2023 under the directives of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

A 38-member medical team, including pediatric surgeons, neurosurgeons, and plastic surgeons, conducted the operation, which lasted 14 hours across nine stages.

Governor Yusuf expressed deep gratitude to the Saudi authorities for fully sponsoring the life-saving surgery and pledged that the Kano government would cover the twins’ welfare and education up to university level.

Speaking at the airport, Saudi Consul General in Kano, Khalil Ahmed Al-Admawi, described the operation’s success as proof of the Kingdom’s commitment to humanitarian service.

He noted that the twins’ case marked the 65th successful surgery under Saudi Arabia’s Siamese Twins Separation Program, which has treated 150 sets of conjoined twins from 25 countries over the last 35 years.

The program, he added, has become one of the world’s leading medical humanitarian initiatives, reflecting Saudi Arabia’s expertise in pediatric surgery and dedication to supporting vulnerable families.
